PEUGEOT, CITROËN GEAR UP FOR CLEANER FUTURE

PSA SAYS: A partner to the Planète Durable trade show, to be held at the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre from 25 to 28 March, PSA Peugeot Citroën is presenting its commitments in the field of sustainable development as well as its carbon-free mobility solutions.

In response to environmental challenges and new, legitimate customer expectations, the Group is offering a broad range of more environmentally friendly vehicles.

With European sales of more than 670,000 vehicles emitting fewer than 120 g of CO2/km in 2009, PSA Peugeot Citroën is already the leader in low-emission vehicles. Its goal is to sell over one million units in 2012.

Moreover, since every customer is different, the Group is developing complementary solutions for an array of needs and types of use that respond to customer expectations in terms of features and cost.

The electric vehicle is the ideal solution for urban use. The Group’s first models – the Peugeot iOn and Citroën C-ZERO – will be introduced in Europe at the end of the year. They have a range of 130 km after a six-hour charge from a standard electrical outlet.

For greater range, hybrid diesel vehicles provide an attractive solution. Emissions-free in electric mode, when running errands in town for example, they offer the same range as an internal combustion engine vehicle for longer weekend or holiday trips. This technology – called HYbrid4 – will be available on the Peugeot 3008 and Citroën DS5 beginning in 2011.

In 2012, diesel hybrid engines will offer extended range in electric mode thanks to batteries capable of storing more power. In addition to recovering energy when driving, they will also be rechargeable on a traditional electric outlet, just like an EV.

Lastly, internal combustion engines are constantly being improved thanks to e-HDi micro-hybrid technology, which will gradually be deployed on all Peugeot and Citroën line-ups beginning this year.

At the Group’s Planète Durable stand, environmentally conscious visitors will find the most suitable solution to their personal mobility needs. In particular, they will discover the following vehicles:

−        The new Citroën C3 that emits 99 g of CO2/km thanks to its optimised diesel engine.
−        The Peugeot iOn and Citroën C-ZERO, two new-generation EVs that are emissions-free in use.
    −        A Peugeot power-assisted bicycle.
A demonstration unit is presenting the Mu by Peugeot mobility offering launched in February in Paris and deployed in several leading European cities.

Lastly, PSA Peugeot Citroën is showcasing its eco-design initiatives, which are intended to reduce a vehicle’s environmental impact at every stage of its lifecycle, from the drawing board to end-of-life recycling.
