RENAULT JOINS CARGO BOYS WITH TRAFIC VAN




    Following the recent launch of the Renault Kangoo Express,the arrival of the new Trafic Panel Van demonstrates how serious Renault isabout offering light commercial vehicle (LCV) solutions to businesses in SouthAfrica.

    “We are intent on raising our profile as acontender in the crucial LCV segment. By expanding the range with the newTrafic Panel Van, we’re extending our range of exceptionally versatile,competent and affordable vehicles in this sector,” says Xavier Gobille,managing director of Renault SA.

    The Trafic Panel Van has been specificallydesigned to meet the needs of professionals, regardless of the businessenvironment they are active in. With its standard height and long wheelbase, itoffers ultimate flexibility to suit any business requirement, matched to animpressive 1 200 kg payload capacity and 2 800 mm cargo area length.

    Access to the vast 6.0 m3 load compartment is bymeans of a single sliding door on the left, along with side-hinged rear doorsthat can be swivelled through 180 degrees for easier loading. Additionally,side anchorage points are provided to safely secure items in transit. 

    The Trafic’s suspension has been specially adaptedto easily cope with its load-lugging ability, while delivering levels of riderefinement and control more typical of an MPV. This is achieved through the useof MacPherson-type suspension with an anti-roll bar in front, along with aflexible beam with trailing arms and Panhard rod at the rear.

    The combination of load-sensitive hydraulicdampers and variable-rate suspension ensures a constant ride height andconsistent handling traits, regardless of how much weight the vehicle iscarrying.

    In the interests of safety, the Trafic is equippedwith disc brakes all round, controlled by ABS with electronic brake forcedistribution (EBD) and emergency brake assist (EBA). This ensures the optimumlevel of stopping ability, regardless of the driving conditions or load onboard. 

    Additionally, a driver’s airbag is standard, asare side impact bars and height-adjustable seat belts with force limiters andpre-tensioners.

    Comfort and convenience are the hallmarks of theTrafic’s cabin environment, which offers levels of refinement and standardfeatures normally associated with passenger cars. The comprehensive equipmentlist includes air-conditioning, power steering, electric windows and mirrors, atrip computer, a single-CD, MP3-compatible audio system, and aheight-adjustable driver’s seat.

    Numerous practical and user-friendly stowagesolutions are provided. These include an A4 document holder at the top of thecentre console, a storage slot above the glove box, and large binnacles in thedoor panels.

    Vehicle security is a prime consideration in thissegment. Accordingly, the Trafic Panel Van boasts an insurance-approvedCategory 1 alarm and immobiliser system, which includes the RenaultAnti-Intruder Device (RAID). 

    This is bolstered by remote central locking with adeadlocking function for ultimate peace of mind. In addition, the spare wheelis fitted with anti-theft bracket.

    Combining low fuel consumption and running costswith dependable performance, the Trafic is powered by a 1 870 cc common-railturbo diesel engine. The 1.9 dCi unit produces 74kW of power at 3500rpm, linkedto 240Nm of torque at 2000rpm.

    Mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, the Traficis capable of consuming as little as 6.9 l/100 km in the extra-urbanenvironment. Its combined cycle consumption is 7.9 l/100 km, with acorresponding CO2 emissions rating of 210 g/km. A large 90-litre fuel tank isstandard.
