Dornbracht brings island life to your bathroom

via DVICE by Addy Dugdale on 3/27/09

There are bathrooms, and then there are bathrooms. This design by Dornbracht is really for a bath floor — what the super-rich can afford to install in their homes that just bubble over with square footage. Unlike most bathrooms, where the bath fixtures are placed around the edges of the room, the German company's Supernova range is all about having everything in a central island. There's even a little sink for your feet. Well, I'm assuming it's for feet, perhaps it's to clean the teacup chihuahua after it's rolled in something it shouldn't have.

Everything is finished in high gloss, which "reflects the island's individual laguna-like water zones." There are not many product blurbs for bathrooms that can transport you immediately to Tahiti, but hey, it's Friday and I'm so there. Funnily enough, there's something familiar about the faucets which, while not quite as extreme as this one, still pack quite a cascading punch.

There's nothing about this bathroom I don't like, but what really does it for me is the way the shower mimics the faucet. One thing Dornbracht missed, though: The publicity shots should have had a bunch of South Seas beauties combing out their hair while bronzed island men dive for pearls in the bath.
