Hulme CanAm

    Hulme CanAm

    Named in honour of Denny Hulme, the only Formula One World Champion New Zealand, Hulme Supercars aims at competing in the supercars international market.

    The CanAm was officially presented on 30 May 2009 after nearly five years of development.

    The first concept was presented in 2006 at the UK ’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

    It was designed by Chuck Pelly, an American automotive designer who has designed vehicles for GM, Chrysler, American Motors, Mazda, Subaru and BMW.

    Hulme CanAm

    The CanAm is powered by a mid-mounted 7-litre (427cu.in) Chevrolet V8 engine developing 600bhp and 600Nm torque, coupled to a six-speed gearbox. The top speed will be between 300 and 320 km/h.

    Among the technical highlights are a carbon composite tub and bodywork and race-orientated chassis, suspension and braking. The total weight is under 1,000 kg.

    The car is being developed by the Hulme's team in cooperation with Massey University, and is currently in the testing and homologation phase.

    Hulme is planning a limited production of the CanAm, which should start in 2010. First information indicate a price of about 700,000 USD. The company also plans the development of additional model variants - including a Coupe and a Spyder version.
