Black women rejoice, here’s a piece of good news: Chrysler will not stop producing the PT Cruiser. Well not for at least another year. Black women you wonder? Yes, apparently this particular group of people is a major contributor to the PT Cruiser’s sales in South Africa.
“The heritage-styled Chrysler PT Cruiser continues to be a global success story,” said Peter Fong – President and Chief Executive Officer – Chrysler Brand and Lead Executive for the Sales Organisation, Chrysler Group LLC. “With more than 1.3 million PT Cruisers sold in more than 60 countries since 2000, we're excited to announce we're re-energizing the iconic and award-winning PT Cruiser.”
There you have it. I drove the Mexico-manufactured PT Cruiser for the first time in 2002. One time I was stopped by the cops who were just interested in checking out the car. I guess that was the whole reason for its 1940s retro shape; to attract attention, because it was certainly not a performer of any note beyond that. Since then several additional models have appeared, including the Convertible.
