ETV: Extra Terrestrial Vehicle

A friend in Dubai spotted this recently, thinking it was possibly a solar car. I'd seen a pic of something similar recently, sure it was some kind super low volume of electric car.

Sadly, we were both wrong. I did find it, and it's pictured below. It's called the ETV, for Extra Terrestrial Vehicle. And what kind of alternate drive-train does this futuristic car have? Scroll down to find out...

Aftermarket Juke

Japanese Nissan tuner Impul had tried it's hand at the Juke, and in the process actually made it look worse... A silver ground effects kit clashes with the black along the lower body of the Juke, negating the effect it had of visually reducing the height of the body. Up front to spoiler only exaggerates the odd stock 3 hole air intakes, which look as if they were made for launching torpedoes. The look is topped off with a gigantic rally-type spoiler that a WRX would envy, and - of all things - window visors (which need their own dedicated autofug posting).

Miata gets DAMD

God - it's like a disease. Apparently this Aston Martin look is referred to as "Black X Metal" by DAMD, and it's about as infectious as Rebecca Black, in an equally bad way. It's the black plaque...

'49 Ford Fairlady DAMnation

Found this research DAMD, but unfortunately I can't find any more pics. Looks like a 300ZX/Fairlady morphing into a '49 Ford, and I think it's safe to say this actually looks WORSE than previous attempts.

To Infiniti and Beyond...

Yeah - I may have used that tag line before. But these guys aren't above recycling, so why can't I be? The ironically named Japanese maker of bodykits knowns of DAMD, make the kits you see here. Turn your Infini G35 / Nissan Skyline / Nissan 350Z / Nissan Fairlady into a convincing Aston Martin ripoff from the headlights forward! Possibly a link to James Bond in here, as he's also molested many fair ladies.

Toyota MR-2 Mustake

Usually when you’re provided a cheap mid-engine car and you have delusions of grandeur, you turn it into same slightly odd-looking Ferrari or Lamborghini. So I’m sure what to call the disorder that would cause you to turn your Toyota MR-2 into an imitation Mustang – a car that isn’t exactly the hardest to come by. Reverse Redneckism?

OK – these are trying to look like Shelby Mustangs, which are rarer and more expensive that your run-of-the-mill Mustang. But wouldn’t it be easier to by an ACTUAL Mustang and make it look like a Shelby? You can probably buy one for the same price as an MR2, and it wouldn’t look like an abomination.

SixTen Sabre

Have a Mustang convertible and think it's not unique enough? Like British cars but have very little taste? The SixTen Sabre is the kit car for you! Using a Mustang base, they add a swoopy (and flimsy) body kit with Mini headlights that lend a Morgan air (not exactly the most attractive car in itself) and rotated Volvo taillights that look all kinds of wrong.

Damn You, Michael Bay 3: Revenge of the Fallen

Yeah, I realize that's the title of the second Transformers movie. But I couldn't find anything punny about "Dark of the Moon". I posted this before, but I'm posting it again because I've come to the horrifying realization that this is not a one off but a kit. Yes - there's more than one of these roaming the streets. One can only hope GM sees this and sues them to stop production for copyright infringement. However I suppose they could make a case against GM, in that this looks almost nothing like the concept car.

Also - does anyone else find it ironic that the red car is parked in a handicapped spot?

Ctrl+Z = Galatea Revision

The Galatea Revision. Yikes. Looks like someone took a Hyundai Tiburon and smashed on the front end of a Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione by beating it furiously with an ugly stick. This $5000 USD kit is mean to "offer an exotic coachbuilt appearance for the price of a bodykit," according to the press release anyway. The rear view isn't quite as bad, even if the taillights look a bit like a less exotic Italian coupe.

Back to the Future

Yes, I've brought you these bastardizations before. Multiple times. But they were never of Thunderbirds of this vintage - only 10th generation (1989-1997) cars. Now it appears they broadened their horizons to the 9th generation (1983-1988). Either that or some savvy individual that this was a brilliant idea idea and struck out on his own.

Also not sure of where the photo shot was staged, but it appears to be at a fountain with a drainage problem.

PISA Scorpion

Another Phoenix International Sport Automobiles (PISA) Fiero creation. This unholy union of Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme and Toyota Celica is at least more unique than some of their other kits. In fact, at first glance I wouldn't have seen the Fiero connection had all of their products not revolved around Pontiac's mid-engined plagiarist's dream.

PISA Artero

Another kit from Phoenix International Sport Automobiles (or PISA), they claim the Artero is "a unique exotic sports car designed by PISA". In other words, it's a slightly squashed looking Lamborghini Diablo knock-off.

ZR1/2

GM has been milling around with the idea of a mid-engine Corvette for over a quarter century or so now. I'm not sure if a mildly disguised Fiero was what they were thinking, however. Also - I'm not sure if you could find an actual 1992-1996 Corvette for the price of a Fiero and the kit - and it would be a REAL Corvette. Regardless, this kit is available from Phoenix International Sport Automobiles.

Damn You, Micheal Bay: The Sequal

I guess it was only a matter of time before someone tried to capitalize on Chevrolet capitalizing on the "Transformer" movie series. This C6 based kit manages to keep all that was hideous about the concept and destroy it's sleek lines and proportions.

Speed Holes

This Fiero-based Countach replica has a novel design solution for the lack of air getting to the front mounted radiator – just fill the entire front hood with holes. I suppose it matches the louvered 25th Anniverary look – just don’t drive it in the rain.

PS: The title is a reference to “The Simpsons” episode “Homie the Clown” – been watching a lot of old Simpsons episodes lately.

Corvette Smorgasbord

Choose one theme and stick with it. The bizarre GT1 / '58 model combo's tail treatment is especially horrid. Nice Wal-Mart license plate surround...

Aston Martin Vansquish

Another update to a previous post, I have more pictures of the Miata based Aston Martin. It looks just as awkward from other angles as it does from the front. The Hyundai Sonata tails are a nice touch (although they do look a bit like those on the Vanquish

I had this car waiting to be posted for a while - I didn't realize I hadn't until my previous post where I tried to reference it. Anyway, here's the Miata based Cobra I was talking about. I suppose it doesn't really look THAT bad, in a cute anime kind of way. It's like a Pokémon Cobra. Baby got back though...

Puny Car

The Mazda Miata seems to be turning into the darling of the kit world, as you can transform the car into any horribly proportioned creation you can imagine, from an Aston Martin to a Cobra. Or in this case, a early Mustang convertible.

Super Stepside

Billed as "the ultimate pickup", the Super Stepside is a bit of an oxymoron - given that the donor "truck" for this kit is full-size GM sedans from the 80's.

I first saw and posted this kit in 2005. I correctly guessed what it was made of, but thought something that looked this horrid was a homemade one-off. But it's actually available to purchase as a kit. People actually bought them, as more than one exist.

Early models such as the one posted earlier don't appear to have headlights, while the one above has some pilfered from the exotic Chevy Malibu.
