While the basic engine of 4-cylinder gets a little buzzy on acceleration heavy gas, it does an effective job and provide enough power. And 6-speed automatic transmission keeps the engine in the power band while accelerating.




Ride quality is good, so highway driving showed some stiffness, as well as excessive road noise. However, on twisty roads, the suspension was kept well through the fast corner and, while not a sports car, the Sportage is reasonably agile and fun to drive.

The interior is spacious and comfortable rooms. Leg room is much, even for drivers over the seating of 6 feet high, and the back is fine for most adults. Headroom is more than enough, front and rear, and rear cargo area is easy to load platform with a clever underfloor tray that is divided into compartments for storing various objects.

The Kia Sportage has been one of the first compact SUV in the U.S. market, pointing to the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V and Ford Escape. He continues to win audiences over, and version 2011 is that to improve its position in the market. With three trim levels (Base, LX and EX), a turbo engine came to a wide range of standard and optional equipment, the Kia has success written all over it. Add to this the fact that prices start below $ 16.900 for the base model, and you can see why buyers are willing to try an album soon.

remuneration Kia Sportage was officially presented to the world at the Geneva Motor Show. The small SUV will go on sale shortly after the evening on March 2.

Information about the beginnings of the vehicle was officially released shortly after images of the European Union Patent Office has been discovered.




The photos show the new model SUV with a completely new front, redesigned roofline, sculpted side panels and LED lighting in several places. The vehicle will be built on the same platform as the Hyundai Tucson (ix35) and will be "longer, lower and wider" than the second generation vehicle, according to a press release.

"Sportage was the car that really made the breakthrough for Kia in Europe and the brand new version that people stand up and take note, as the original did," said Michael Cole Kia executive. "I'm sure he will start a new chapter in the remarkable history and Kia."

The new Sportage fell under the leadership of former Audi design designer, Peter Schreyer. Under his leadership, the latest Kia models have become the Kia brand as a credible player in the world.

Before we get into the coloured bits, take a look at this new Scion FR-S concept (?).....






Isn't that a great looking car? Well I like it  -   it has real attitude. One of my co-workers thinks it's too "in your face", but what does he know, he drives a beige Corolla! This is a concept now, but opinion is that it will be a real Scion sometime in 2012. Toyota, who is behind Scion, really needs to have some "character" cars in their line up. These companies have gotten too darn cautious with their designs.


Speaking of colour.......a study has just been released showing that the top colours world wide are white, black, silver and grey. Does this come as a surprise to anyone with eyes? Some interesting bits.....


- white is popular in San Francisco
- black in Boston
- green in Philly, Pittsburgh and DC
- orange and gold in Miami
- blue in the Czech Republic, but white most everywhere else in Europe
- cream in Italy and France

OPEL GTC: NEW RENDERINGS REVEALED

Opel’s GTC Concept car, unveiled at the 2010 Paris International Motor Show, is well on its production way. These renderings are just a short reminder of that. They are officially from Opel itself, but as you can see, the badging is Vauxhall which is the UK version of Opel. The GTC is based on the new Astra and is placed beneath the OPC model and it faces off with hot hatches like the VW Golf GTI, Ford Focus ST, Renault Megane RS and Mazda3 MPS.




We already know how much power the GTC is wielding from that 2.0-litre turbo engine. In case you missed it, it is 213kW sent to the front wheels. What that means for the OPC is anyone’s guess, but I will wager on something close on 240kW for that snort-ripper. 

KENNY KUNENE'S ZAR PARTNER GAYTON MCKENZIE SURVIVES HORROR CRASH

It was a mega roadtrip this weekend with several of the ZAR sports cars heading to East London and Umtata for the Zuma-Sambudla weddings, but it was on the way home from Umthatha that disaster struck, about 40km from the town, between Umtata and Ncgobo. Gayton McKenzie, the Chairman of the ZAR brand, was passing a truck on a bumpy road, when the bumps turned into ditches in the road. The white, V10 R8 Spyder began to lose control.




Gayton, an enormously experienced driver, realised the car was going to leave the road and did his best to steer it from the right hand side, where there was a row of trees. He managed to veer left, in front of the truck he’d just passed, then narrowly missed a telephone pole, crashed through the roadside fencing, driving on two wheels for part of the way. The car went through a ditch and crashed into an electricity pylon, catching fire. In the car with him was Moloko McKenzie, former Miss SA teen, who was now knocked unconscious. Gayton, in a rush of adrenaline, managed to free himself from the totaled sports car, pulled Moloko free of the seat and carried her to safety, rolling into a ditch as he was convinced the car might explode. It was only then that he realised he had a broken foot.


The accident was witnessed by several in the ZAR convoy. Kenny Kunene was following the R8 in his black Lamborghini convertible and, when phoned for comment, was inconsolably emotional, as were all the others at the scene.


Gayton, on the other hand, was simply happy to be alive. Realising Moloko was all right and that he had emerged from the incident barely hurt, he was on top form, even joking with the paramedics. The instant rumours of his death, which even reached his mom, are, as Mark Twain put it, greatly exaggerated.


So, to all Gayton’s friends, fans and family, the good news is that the big man is still alive. To all you haters, the bad news is that he’s still alive.


ZAR people, take care on the roads, wear those seatbelts and get home safely. It can happen to the best of us, so appreciate every moment.


We asked Gayton what car he would get to replace the R8. “Something slower,” he said. “Maybe time for that Maybach.”
