Opel is readying the all-new 2012 Zafira MPV (multipurpose vehicle), a car that competes with others like the Renault Scenic and new Peugeot 5008. The car will start selling in Europe in early 2012 and South Africa will soon follow. A number of engines are to be used to compete and set it apart from its rivals, including possibly a hot new OPC version.
Zafira boasts new styling which includes a different front grille surrounded by controversial headlights that droop quite low into the front bumper, forming a boomerang-like shape. In keeping with Opel’s latest tradition of taking its cars a little upmarket, the Zafira features improved interior materials and better build quality. There’s even a panoramic sunroof extending all the way to the back. The new Flex7 seating system allows the three middle-row seats to fold completely flat.
Turbo diesel engines applied include a 2.0-litre CDTI making 82kW, 97kW and 123kW. The petrol is a 1.4-litre turbo worth 89kW and 104kW.
The new Zafira will be seen at the 2011 Frankfurt International Motor Show and hopefully make its way to the 2011 Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS) too.
