BENTLEY CONTINENTAL GT FACELIFT: VIDEO

Bentley’s Continental GT has benefited from a mild facelift that refreshes its exterior looks and interior appointments. First delivered to market in 2003, the two-door GT became a symbol of the times; good times, excess, riche nouveau etc etc. Moneyed folk with no serious driving ambitions snapped them up with ease and Bentley returned to “cool”.

The new car is presented with a range of changes, much too many to list on here. So we’ll take it easy. Exterior changes include a new front grille, the use of aluminium Super Forming for the front wings and boot lid and LED daytime running lights.

Inside the bespoke elements like a new dashboard with a leather-finished instrument panel, seats with a “cobra” design, a new infotainment system with touchscreen and a 30GB hard drive (including sat nav).

Bentley updated its W12 (two V6s mated together) twin turbo engine with a power boost. It now produces 423kW and 700Nm of torque. The 0 – 100km/h time is dispatched in 4.6 seconds and top speed is unlimited to 318km/h. Crew is expecting a new V8 engine in late 2011, but there is no clarity on whether it will replace the W12 or merely supplement it.

Married to the engine is a 6-speed automatic ZF gearbox which sends power to all four wheels. A 40:60 rear-biased configuration is applied, so the car behaves a little more like a RWD than an AWD. Whose four wheels wear 20-inch rubber, with 21s an optional extra.
