In these crunchy times, even the super-rich are having a torrid time of it. So what better than a share in a $24-million yacht designed by Norman Fosterthe British uber-architect of the past 20 years? For $2,485,000, you'll get 30 nights a year on the 134-foot yacht, which has been built at the Rodriquez Cantieri Navale yard in Italy to Foster + Partners' specifications.

Fittings are by Cassina, and kitchen and galley equipment by Schiffini (like anyone who rents this baby is even going to see the kitchen — there are seven crew thrown in with the eight-year deal, as well as transport, including private jet and helicopter transfers at each end of your holiday.) And should you worry about being in close proximity to the same people for a month, there's over 5,000 square feet of internal and external space, not to mention the ease in which you could "lose" the most annoying member of your party overboard.

When your time is up, anyone who hasn't been prised off the deck screaming, "I don't want to leave, it's mine, mine, I tell you," will get their share of the proceeds from the sale, which is expected to recoup around 60 per cent of the yacht's original value. I will just remind you of the old adage, "If it floats or flies — rent, don't buy."
