LUCKY FREE STATE FARMER WINS NISSAN NP300

    Two leaders in their respective fields, Nissan SA and animal health provider Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health, formed a mutually beneficial partnership in 2010, whereby Nissan SA proudly sponsored two NP300 Hardbody 2.5 TDi Hi-Rider Double Cabs as the two grand prizes to be won during Intervet’s annual sales campaign to the farming community.

    The first of the two 2.5 TDI NP300 Hardbody Double Cabs was handed over to the lucky winner in July 2010. Mr Martinus Willemse from Memel in the Free State reports only happy, hardworking kilometers.

    The second 2.5 TDI NP300 Hardbody was proudly presented to a very excited recipient on 21 January 2011 at Nissan SA’s impressive motor assembly facility in Rosslyn, Pretoria.

    With the proven reliability and durability of this tough and rugged 1–tonner, it is expected that both winners openly welcome the 2.5 TDi NP300 Hardbody into their demanding daily activities.

    Adds Intervet MD Dr Alan Kloeck; “This has been a superb campaign, and very well supported by the farming community! It’s a real win-win situation, sales increased thanks to the enticing prospect of winning this Nissan bakkie, Nissan enjoyed invaluable exposure wherever we went in the farming community, and our lucky winners have received great value in return for giving us their business.”

    While the NP300 enjoyed the spotlight, Nissan offers the most comprehensive light commercial range in South Africa, from the half-ton NP200, the Navara through to the go-anywhere Patrol Pickup. Nissan vehicles are known and loved on South African farms for their never-say-die attitude and exceptional longevity in the harshest of conditions. It is for these qualities that the Nissan brand is all but revered among the hard-working farmers of our country. 

    Following a tour of the Rosslyn plant at which the NP200, NP300, Tiida and Livina ranges are assembled, the air became thick with the expectant tension of the potential winners of the grand prize. The two finalists, Mike Richmond of Elandslaagte in KZN and Hannes van Vuuren from Omega farms, Bloemfontein, stepped up and selected their keys to find out who would be the proud owner of the Nissan NP300 2.5 TDI Hi-Rider Double Cab.

    When the first finalist, Mike Richmond, failed to make the bakkie on display turn over on his key, he stepped aside with a sportsmanlike congratulation for Hannes to try his key. But when Hannes also tried his key and failed to start the vehicle, the finalists dropped back onto the knife-edge of expectation. 

    In the end, Hannes was the lucky winner who had drawn the key with “NP300” engraved on it. “This is just fantastic,” he said breathlessly. “I’ve literally never won a competition like this in my life. This bakkie is going to become a treasured member of the van Vuuren family and a valuable asset to our work at Omega, I can assure you! I’ve already called home and was nearly deafened by my grandchildren screaming congratulations – I’d also be jumping up and down and celebrating at the top of my lungs if I wasn’t so drained from the tension of it all.”

    Although disappointed to have only achieved second place, Mike was able to console himself with a R5000 Intervet voucher, and a R5000 cash prize from Nissan SA, as well as an unexpected bonus which Nissan SA Director of Sales, Marketing, and Aftersales, Johan Kleynhans, had announced before lunch. An attractive R30 000 cash voucher for Mike to use at his discretion with the purchase of any new Nissan vehicle from any dealership in the country!

    Kleynhans concludes; “This was a lot of fun, and certainly has been a superb promotion for us. Intervet has actively and untiringly promoted the Nissan brand in the farming sector, a South African industry which is a key focus for us, while our donation of two NP300s has helped them drive record sales even in difficult times. It’s been wonderful having our two industry-leading companies work hand-in-hand over the course of this campaign, and we hope to be able to continue our relationship moving forward.”
