The next Honda Civic hatch lost its covers at Frankfurt as well, looking more evolution than revolution. Some might even mistake it for a facelift, which it’s not. The front end will probably be the most talked-about bit among hatch and indeed, car enthusiasts.
Honda is sticking to its naturally aspirated guns with the engine lineup, baselined on the 75kW 1.4-litre petrol also used in the Jazz. Higher up the 1.8-litre appears, pushing out 106kW. Promises are made by the excellent 2.2-litre i-DTEC turbo diesel making a happy 112kW and returning admirable figures of 4.2 litres per 100km. Our prayers centre around a high-output Type R that will finally stand up to the likes of Focus ST, Golf GTI and Megane RS.
We’ll be lucky to see the new Civic hatch at JIMS 2011, but hopefully Honda SA can have the heart to surprise us.
