2 MILLIONTH MINI COMES OFF PRODUCTION LINE

The 2 millionthMINI has rolled off the production line at MINI’s UK plant in Oxford. Mind you we are talking aboutthe MINI here, not the Mini, which was the old 1960s car. Only 10 yearsago did BMW start producing the new MINI hatch, and has since added several derivatives, including aConvertible and the recent Countryman.

“It’s a real privilege to drive this true British icon offthe production line today,” said British Prime Minister David Cameron. “The 2millionth MINI to be made here in Oxford is a fantastic symbol of the UK’s strength in the global automotive industry and a great Britishmanufacturing success story. MINI isnot just a symbol of our industrial past, but also the great industrial future we want to build.”

A lovely feel-goodmessage from the young PM, but truth be told, BMW could build that caranywhere, including Tshwane where it builds 3 Series models for the world.
